CNC Turning and Milling Capabilities
Our advanced CNC machines deliver precision machining for both simple and complex geometries, ensuring consistency, reliability and exceptional surface finishes.

- Large-part capacity up to 750mm diameter and 5 metres in length using steady rests
- Live tooling, Y-axis, tailstock and automatic steady rest integration for complex features
- Multi-axis machines (including 5-axis) for simultaneous turning and milling operations
- KUKA robotic automation on key lathes for high-volume, repeatable output
- Ideal for shafts, hubs, flanges and stepped components across demanding industries

- 4th-axis machining for multi-face accuracy without repositioning

Capacity & Processes
Halifax Rack and Screw operates one of the most comprehensive machining floors in the UK, with advanced capabilities across rack milling, CNC turning, milling, gear cutting, thread whirling and EDM. The following highlights the scale, versatility and technical precision we offer.
Rack Milling
With six large-scale Kesel RMX and L93 machines, we produce rack gears up to 10 metres in length and 32 module in size. Both magnetic chuck and hydraulic vice setups are used depending on the part geometry and holding requirements.
Thread Whirling
We use both Leistritz and CNC Whirler equipment to machine difficult materials to exacting tolerances — up to 100mm diameter and 6 metres in length — ideal for lead screws, worm shafts and threaded bars.
CNC Turning
Our turning capacity includes diameters up to 750mm and lengths up to 5 metres, with through-steady support. Machines include multi-axis CNC lathes with live tooling, Y-axis, tailstock support and automated bar feeding for high-throughput runs.
CNC Milling
Using Ibarmia and Haas machining centres, we cover part sizes from 500mm up to 6,000mm (X-axis) with integrated 4th axis and high torque heads where required. Our setups are designed for both large flat components and complex multi-face parts.
Gear Cutting
Precision internal and external gear cutting is supported by power skiving and custom gear milling on DMG and Okuma systems, offering rapid turnaround and one-off capability where needed.
EDM & Inspection
For intricate forms and heat-treated materials, our Makino H.E.A.T. wire EDM machine handles table workpieces up to 1000mm x 800mm x 400mm. All components are checked using our Mitutoyo CNC CMM and shadowgraph systems for complete quality assurance.
Subcontract Services
We also manage subcontract operations including heat treatment, zinc plating, anodising, Xylan coating and painting — ensuring parts are finished and ready for assembly.
